The Popular University Program has been working for three years from its Espacio Esmeralda headquarters, located in the University City, with the objective of including young people and adults from popular sectors in their own construction of university citizenship based on access to higher education proposals .
From its beginnings, it was aimed at generating a genuine articulation with the territory of the República de La Sexta neighborhood in order to generate a new access door to the University and currently, it has experiences of decentralization of the courses, training students in the districts west and northwest of the city, as well as in locations in the south of Santa Fe.
Each of these training spaces seeks to promote a permanent dialogue between academic and practical knowledge in order to begin to think about a logic of training paths that are flexible and incorporate experiences from these programs towards degree courses.

In this case, the dialogue was carried out with the Bachelor's and Technician's Degree in Clothing Design, created in the Faculty of Humanities and Arts, seeking to generate proposals for training and diplomas that accommodate both experiences. The academic implementation of the program was carried out on the topic of clothing design through great coordination with the Municipal Design School.
In this way, offering introductory and advanced trade courses, workshops and intensive training in the different aspects of design.
These training paths offer students a first approach to design, promoting creativity and providing tools that serve as inspiration, as well as the different techniques necessary for production.
The various paths of Clothing Design try to build a critical perspective towards the consumption and production of clothing, body stereotypes, the pollution generated by this industry, and the production of clothing without gender and without age range. In this way, a vision is given from a more social, symbolic, political and expressive angle.
The tools of the trade offer the student a first approach to textile production from the design and manufacture of garments and their respective transformations, different textiles are recognized and the gaze and perception are trained from color theory, and with different inspiration. In turn, production requires the recognition, management and use of textile production machines.
The proposed exercise seeks to present clothing and dressing as a language of communication, taking clothing as a second skin that transmits a message.
Both in the two courses taught within the framework of the Popular University Program, the Introduction to Clothing Design Course and Advanced Level Clothing Design, as well as in the Bachelor's Degree in Clothing and Textile Design that was launched in the UNR Faculty of Humanities and Arts and the recent undergraduate Diploma in Molding and Construction Practices, link knowledge that was previously left out of university education. These various staggered and flexible routes seek to be complementary and present themselves as a gateway to the University for those people and sectors that would not otherwise have this possibility.
- Introduction to Clothing Design Course
The Introduction to Clothing Design Course program covers everything from molding and garment design to the handling of different machines and techniques in the textile industry. It also addresses an introduction to the design of one's own brand, which those who graduate and wish to continue training will be able to develop at an Advanced Level.
The Introduction Course addresses topics related to various concepts. On the one hand, the notions of “Design and Creativity”, where the principles of design, fashion drawing (figurism), color theory and ideas of inspiration are discussed, and on the other hand, the ideas of “Modelism and Sewing”, where you experience the recognition of raw materials and textile materials, as well as the handling of machines. - Advanced Level Clothing Design
The Advanced Level of Clothing Design delves into marketing issues related to the textile and fashion industry and continues training in garment molding. On this path, the classes deal with topics linked to the human body and its relationships, the concept of "Collection", and Marketing related to the clothing industry. In addition, it seeks to know and generate specific molding, as well as manipulate various textile and sewing materials.
The decentralization experiences of the Popular University Program reflect the university model that we want, to which we commit with a lot of work and dedication, with the goal of generating a more inclusive and popular university.
– Care Center “Los Cedros”
An initiative to promote, from the UNR Extension and Territory Area, the accessibility of the Popular University Program in different neighborhoods of the city. It is an articulation between our University, the School of Design of the Secretariat of Culture and Education of the Municipality of Rosario and the “New Opportunity” Program, which provides a clothing design workshop for the residents of the northern area. from the city.
– Western District “Felipe Moré”
The University began to work with the School of Design of the Municipality of Rosario and began to explore more territorial anchoring to reach different spaces in the city. The objective of this space is to be an introduction to clothing design, opening doors to continue perfecting.
– Municipality of Firmat
Coordinated by the Popular University Program and in dialogue with the Production Secretariat of the Municipality of Firmat, the proposal was presented within the framework of the training offered together with the Firmat University Center since 2021 and it was about taught throughout the semester of the Clothing Design Course. This is a pilot test to carry out deterritorialization, with the projection of working together with municipalities and communes in the region in the short and medium term.

Lingerie and swimsuit intensive
An experience that began in Espacio Esmeralda, being offered on multiple occasions and that can now also be offered in the town of Firmat, within the framework of the work between the Popular University program, the Firmat University Center and the Production Secretariat of the Municipality of Firmat , an intensive lingerie training dedicated to clothing design graduates and for the general public. Members of the coordination team of the Popular University Program and teachers from Espacio Esmeralda come to the town to teach the workshop and collaborate with the tasks that are carried out.

Screen printing intensive
In conjunction with the School of Textile Design and Production of the Municipality of Rosario and through the Postas Culturales program, a Remería and Stamping Workshop was held that covered base molding, transformations, screen printing and sublimation.

Stage costume intensive
This is a course taught at Espacio Esmeralda and which seeks to provide tools for the design, realization and production of costumes for the different disciplines of the performing arts.
Generating a link with the Clothing Design course, it seeks to deepen the knowledge and tools previously acquired in the specific areas related to stage costumes, and its main objectives are: to develop the basic concepts for the specific design of each artistic expression; enable a space for experimentation and discovery of new techniques; offer concrete tools for job placement in the field.

– Experience of Educational Social Practices in AI
The launch of the PSE took place with students from the University Technician in Artificial Intelligence, carrying out tasks of digital inclusion and use of software with people on the street, adults and older adults and students of Clothing Design from the Popular University of the UNR.
In the experience that was developed in the Popular University Program, the meetings were dedicated to the creation of images with tools offered by artificial intelligence with the aim of promoting the creativity of the designs that the students of the Clothing Design Course had to present. as the final project of the journey. At the same time, the development of the brand image was deepened by working with digital design tools.
