The UNR prioritizes Human Rights as an institutional policy, promoting concrete actions in inclusion, accessibility, education and memory.
From 2019, the Universidad Nacional de Rosario The university has been deepening a sustained process of prioritizing human rights policies, understood not only as a regulatory framework but also as a concrete practice that permeates university life. Along this path, the Human Rights Area has implemented an intensive agenda of actions over the past year aimed at expanding rights, promoting inclusion, and strengthening the presence of the public university in historically marginalized territories and contexts.
“We have prioritized the Human Rights agenda because we understand that it is entirely related to the values and principles of the Argentine Public University. Giving it the necessary centrality is not only an administrative act of giving the Human Rights Area first rank in the institutional hierarchy of the University's governing structure, but it is also, at the same time, a declaration of principles,” explained Rector Franco Bartolacci.
One of the central focuses of the work was Inclusion and Accessibility, with significant progress at the institutional level. Following an initiative by the Center for Inclusive Design (CEDIN), under the Human Rights Area, and with the approval of the University Council, the National University of Rosario (UNR) established University Accessibility Day, celebrated every third Thursday of May. This date was added to the university calendar to raise awareness of accessibility policies and reaffirm the university's commitment to expanding rights for students and the community at large.
The creation of this day reflects the commitment made by the National University of Rosario (UNR) to the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, based on the principle that accessibility is not only a technical condition, but also a right and an ethical imperative that applies to all aspects of institutional and social life. “We felt it was extremely important that the University, as a result of the work of so many years by our entire community and everything built upon the institutional policies that have been implemented programmatically, create its own day to raise public awareness, to increase visibility, and to continue delving deeper into this issue that concerns us all from a human rights perspective. It is important because, as a society, we still have to unlearn models, patterns, stereotypes, and ways of thinking that have historically shaped our culture,” explained Paula Contino, head of the Human Rights Area.
Throughout these years, and especially since 2019, the UNR has strengthened a comprehensive view of Human Rights, incorporating them as a trans axis
