Groups of the Universidad Nacional de Rosario Together they produced innovative pedagogical material to learn about the soil of the Pampas region.

The Chair of Land Management of the Faculty of Agrarian Sciences of the Universidad Nacional de Rosario, motivated by the design of innovative pedagogical materials that bring students closer to disciplinary studies, carried out together with the Technological Experimentation Laboratory of the Area of Science, Technology and Innovation for Development and space XR Story Lab from the UNR Center for Immersive Narratives the production “Soils 360”, an immersive experience to learn about the soil of the Pampas region. The teaching team involved in the production explained that “creating this production is relevant to innovate in the teaching of subjects, favor the complementarity of theoretical classes with field experiences, and promote exchange with other teams of teachers and researchers in the country. ”.

“Soils 360” is a virtual reality piece made with 360° recordings that allow you to recognize in detail the characteristics of the soil in the faculty area. It allows the user to virtually access the ground horizons, with the possibility of varying their point of view to explore the details. In addition, the tour is accompanied and guided by an audio narration and animated infographics that describe the attributes of the different horizons.

Virtual reality is an interesting tool for educational processes because it not only provides autonomy for the discovery of knowledge, but is built on playful dynamics that involve both students and teachers in learning instances, enabling conversations different from those present during a traditional class. Even these digital tools are complementary to the on-site experiences, which they allow to enhance.

Furthermore, this experience constitutes an interesting case of technological linkage, since the production had support from the companies Amauta and BioSustentartech, being a notable action of collaboration with the productive sector in the generation of innovative educational instances.

Next May 2th The Soils 360 production team will carry out a conference on immersive technologies for educational innovation in which virtual reality production will be presented and experienced. The meeting will take place at the UNR Faculty of Agricultural Sciences from 9 hours, and exhibitions are included in the program on: Immersive technologies in the educational field (Laboratory of Technological Experimentation, UNR), The step by step of immersive production (DCM Team – Transmedia Productions; XR Story Lab – Laboratory of Immersive Narratives), and the experience and future work perspectives of the Chair of Land Management (Faculty of Agrarian Sciences, UNR).
