:: RATIONALE: The area of Cultural Studies has shown a significant increase in recent years due, mainly, to the growing complexity of social and cultural processes within the framework of both regional and globalization problems. The encounter of different manifestations of otherness that the current scenario promotes produces new types of phenomena whose physiognomy constitutes a necessary reason for inquiry. These phenomena cover all social spheres, questioning in a new way the world of art, culture, politics, economics, media and languages, representations and experiences of the public and private, of fiction-reality regimes, etc., and also provoke deep theoretical-epistemological questions in disciplinary spaces associated with Cultural Studies: Communication Sciences, Socio-Semiotics, Psychoanalysis, literary criticism, that is, the knowledge of the human and social sciences as a whole.
The transdisciplinary nature of the approaches is necessary in terms of addressing this increasingly complex nature of our contemporaneity, and, in this sense, the Research Program in Cultural Studies is proposed as a specialized area of articulation of knowledge and research experiences whose general purpose It aims both at the academic and institutional consolidation of the area, and at a substantive use of human resources and knowledge committed to this problem, whose work is already fully established through specific research and extension projects -both national and international-. , publications, participation in academic meetings and events, undergraduate and postgraduate training, direction of post-doctoral students within the framework of bilateral projects, accredited extension projects, etc.
