The persistence of a high number of young people and adults in a situation of illiteracy or illiteracy in our region is particularly focused on inhabitants of vulnerable sectors. To contribute to reversing or reducing the effects of this problem, from the Extension and Territory Area and the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies (CEI) of the Universidad Nacional de Rosario They propose to address literacy with practices in the territory from the value of cultural spaces and knowledge.
Literacy students are young people and adults who did not access formal education, or who, due to dropout or repetition problems, have dropped out of school. The objective of this training space is that, through the reconstruction and expansion of their own knowledge and practices about reading and writing, can access through these activities the social and symbolic goods that characterize the increasingly literate cultures of our time.
To carry it out, a complex work strategy focused on the training of literacy teachers was designed based on the Undergraduate Diploma in Literacy Practices in Non-Formal Literacy Programs (Resolution CS No. 591/02021), whose central objective is to promote the construction of pedagogical and didactic knowledge among the course participants about non-formal literacy processes in young people and adults who are excluded or at risk of exclusion from the formal educational system.
On the other hand, the practices in the territory have been developed, up to now, in various spaces with which the Area of Extension and Territory articulates; and with organizations that raised the need to develop literacy practices with young people and adults.
One of the spaces is Mother Teresa Lourdes Group, where homeless people attend daily to carry out training and containment activities. In this institution there was a strong appropriation of the proposal of the "writing and reading workshop" with a weekly participation of more than 20 adults, who for some was their first experience of literacy, for others, after years, it meant the return to the written culture since they returned to reading and writing with a purpose, significantly; thus constituting this experience in a central sphere of subjectivation and construction of citizenship. Another space is in the association everyone's house from the San Francisquito neighborhood. Both experiences are highly significant, both in the socio-educational inclusion of adults from popular sectors and in the expansion of the training horizons of those who are studying the diploma.
