It is carried out within the framework of the joint work of the Area of Extension and Territory and the Area of Human Rights and with the intervention of students of Agricultural Sciences who begin their second cycle of experiences of this proposal as a Pre-Professional Practice.
The Community Gardens Program of the Extension and Territory Area of the UNR, emerged from the experience of an Extension Project of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, renews its activities in spaces with people in contexts of confinement in the city of Rosario and its surroundings.
The places where they will intervene will once again be the Penitentiary Unit (UP) No. 11 in Piñero, Santa Fe, the Penitentiary Unit (UP) No. 6 in Rosario and the Specialized Center for Juvenile Criminal Responsibility (Ex IRAR) in the same city. .
The experiences carried out in penitentiary units No. 11 and No. 6 are the product of the inter-institutional work of the aforementioned training space together with the Socio-educational Directorate in Confinement Contexts of the Human Rights Area of the UNR that has been carried out since 2021 Through joint work strategies, it is proposed to generate pedagogical instances within the prisons in the south of the province of Santa Fe, with the aim of constituting education as an enabling tool to reduce the damage of confinement, expand the training possibilities and contribute to the life projects of those who leave prison.
The specific skills courses in Orchard Management are also coordinated and articulated through the Extension Secretariat of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, making it a practice space for students, who frame this transition within the Pre-Professional Practice (PPP). ).

It should be noted that the objective with which this training is implemented lies in "a socio-productive approach, generating motivation for the garden in the participants, but allowing them to problematize and reflect on various aspects related to the subject," said teacher Gonzalo Arrizabalaga.
The program contemplates the delivery of certificates in specific skills in orchard management to those who comply with the evaluation instances and group work, contemplating particular cases and the time dedicated to learning and caring for the orchard.
In turn, this space coordinates with organizations and social groups in various places in Rosario and the region, including primary and secondary schools and entities that work with people with disabilities.
“Each space that addresses issues related to doing, valuing one's own knowledge and sharing experiences with others are essential. It not only means learning and gardening, but its objective is to create conditions capable of improving the quality of life of those who are involved”, Arrizabalaga remarked.
