The first episode will air this Sunday, November 26 at 16 p.m. on Public Television. The UNR participated in the production through the Multimedia Communication Directorate.
The documentary series “Water, air, earth, fire – Cartography of environmental conflict” will premiere this Sunday, November 26 at 16 p.m. on Public Television with projection to the entire country.
La Universidad Nacional de Rosario participated in the production through the Multimedia Communication / Transmedia Productions Department. The four-chapter documentary series is produced by Mundo U, the Audiovisual Platform of the National Interuniversity Council, and more than twenty public universities throughout the country within the framework of the “Renacer Audiovisual” award from the Ministry of Culture of the Nation.
Throughout the four episodes, from a coastal agroecological school, Elena Roger covers different environmental themes that challenge us as a society. It is the common thread for specialists and residents of varied landscapes to give voice to the environmental problems that affect the Argentine territory. Each chapter has five cases of environmental roots that are directly linked to water, air, earth and fire.
Each chapter investigates the human action that causes imbalances in the territories and delves into the debate on the environmental emergency that is the objective of this project. From the fires in Catamarca to the retreat of the Patagonian glaciers, the cartography of the environmental conflict in Argentina is covered, contributing to the awareness of society and raising the voice of the people affected in different latitudes.
Episode Water. Only 3% of the planet's water is fresh and is mostly concentrated in glaciers and snow at high peaks. Lakes and rivers lower their flow and dry up drastically. Only water traces of absence and the agonizing testimonies of residents who resist in solitude remain.
Episode Air. Oxygen is the most abundant chemical element in living beings. Produces water, energy and life. Its lethal enemies are carbon dioxide and methane, which decimate it in the greenhouse effect of global warming. Petrochemical, agrotoxic poles, open-air garbage dumps.
Episode Earth. Soil is a living being and houses a quarter of the planet's biodiversity. It constitutes the largest reserve of organic carbon, nutrients and the origin of food. But it is a finite, non-renewable resource. Irrational use leaves its mark of silent degradation and eternal dunes.
Episode Fire. The effects of climate change are manifested in extreme events such as La Niña, which promotes the accumulation of dry biomass, the combustibility of vegetation, and favors uncontrollable megafires. Intentional human action also contributes to the construction of a map of fire that has no borders or limits in Argentina.

The following universities participated in the realization of the chapters: Universidad Nacional de Rosario (UNR), National University of La Pampa (UNLPam), National University of Patagonia San Juan Bosco (UNPSBJ), National University of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and South Atlantic Islands (UNTDF), Universidad Nacional del Litoral (UNL), National University of San Luis (UNSL), National University of Río Negro (UNRN), National University of Córdoba (UNC), National University of La Plata (UNLP), National University of Río Cuarto (UNRC), National University of General Sarmiento (UNGS), National University of the South (UNS), National University of Entre Ríos (UNER), National University of Quilmes (UNQui), National University of the Northeast (UNNE), National University of Catamarca (UNCA), National University of the Comechingones (UNLC), National University of Lanús (UNLa), National University of Mar del Plata (UNMDP).
