The UNR awarded its highest distinction to the plastic artist for his artistic, cultural, and discursive expressions that articulate aesthetics, history, and politics.
In an event chaired by the Rector Franco Bartolacci and the dean Pedro Ferrazini, the Universidad Nacional de Rosario awarded the Honoris Causa Doctorate to the plastic artist Daniel Santoro at the SUM of the Faculty of Architecture.
Likewise, in the same ceremony, the Municipal Council of Rosario declared him a distinguished visitor of the city "for his contribution to the dissemination of public policies regarding education, health, housing, of our country through artistic, cultural, discursive expressions. , which articulate aesthetics, history and politics.”
Daniel Santoro's artistic project is characterized by a baroque, historical and political aesthetic, with overtones of irony, tragedy and criticism of society. He is recognized in our country for the dedication of his work to Peronist iconography, for which he researched from publications of the time. He is co-author of Eva Perón's murals on July 9.
During the tribute, Dean Pedro Ferrazini spoke, as godfather of the doctoral student, and the laudatio was given by Architect Daniel Viú. For his part, Rector Franco Bartolacci thanked Santoro for formally joining the faculty, which is the objective pursued by this recognition, the most important awarded by UNR.

“This title is not only about the long career in a disciplinary area, but about a testimony of life, a way of walking that, due to its commitment, challenges and mobilizes our community especially,” he said, adding that this distinction also says a lot about the institution, of the universe of values and principles to which it subscribes.
“We come to raise our commitment to protect art, which is the expression that saves societies, especially in the complex world we are living in, and above all, raise our voices to value what public education, universities, the national scientific system implies for the entire world,” he highlighted.
Biography
Daniel Santoro was born in Buenos Aires in 1954. He studied at the Prilidiano Pueyrredón School of Fine Arts. He worked as a set designer at the Teatro Colón between 1980 and 1991. In 1985 he made numerous trips to the East exhibiting in various museums and art galleries. In parallel, he teaches courses at various universities, among others he is an external professor in the summer courses at John Hopkins University. He made set designs and film art direction.
He presented more than 20 individual exhibitions in Argentina and abroad, some of which were: Museum of Modern Art (MAMBA) 1992- Palaic de Glace 1990- Centro Cultural Recoleta 1996/2000- Galería Palatina 2004/2006- Galería Della Bücher, Singapore 1990/94- Córdoba, Caraffa Museum 2005.
He also published and illustrated numerous books, including “The Peronist Child's Manual”, “Peronist World”, “Evita for Beginners” and “Rimbaud for Beginners”. “The Manual of the Peronist Child” was chosen best art book by the International Association of Art Critics (AICA).
The main awards he received were: First Prize for Drawing Salón de Estudiantes 1977, Prize Salón Municipal Manuel Belgrano 1987, Best Art Book of the International Association of Art Critics 2003, First Prize Directorate of Museum Fundación Banco Ciudad 1996, Mention for Drawing Salón de Santa Fe 1994, Third Prize for Painting in Angüilara in Rome 1992, among others. In 2012, for his career over the last decade he received a Diploma of Merit from the Konex Awards in the discipline “Painting: Five Years 2007 – 2011”. Since 2007 he has been part of the Estrella del Oriente artistic collective, with which he carried out numerous artistic actions.
