The anthropologist received the highest distinction for his commitment to the Public University and the construction of a critical, emancipatory and Latin American anthropology.

In an emotional event at the Faculty of Humanities and Arts, the Universidad Nacional de Rosario awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to the teacher and researcher Héctor Vázquez. The ceremony was presided over by Rector Franco Bartolacci, Dean Alejandro Vila, Dr. María del Rosario Fernández who read the laudatio, and numerous teachers from this house of studies.

"My fundamental commitments are and have been with the Public University, with literary creation, with the critical construction of knowledge and above all with the native peoples," Vázquez expressed through a text that his son read. He highlighted the efforts for the construction of an emancipatory and Latin American critical anthropology with the collaboration of Drs. Susana Azcona and Margot Bigot.

“The fundamental purpose of emancipatory anthropology is to first highlight and then investigate the historical, cultural, and socioeconomic situations of oppression existing in societies,” he explained and deepened: “Ethnopolitical claims such as territorial rights and the ecological protection of the environment, were put into action based on the mobilizations and claims generated by indigenous organizations and have had an impact at the level of the international legal framework”.

In this sense, he considered it essential to promote an intercultural dialogue among Argentines.
