With thousands of annual consultations, specialized devices, and promotional and preventative actions, the UNR strengthens comprehensive health care as a condition for access to and retention in the university.
La Universidad Nacional de RosarioThrough the Public Health Area, it promotes a comprehensive health care policy as a constitutive part of university life, based on the conviction that the right to education can only be fully exercised when the right to health is guaranteed as an essential human right.
Within this space, there is its own health center, located at Alvear 724, which assists students who do not have any health coverage and operates from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 17 p.m.
During 2025, 1.440 new students enrolled at this institution, and a total of 15.554 outpatient visits were conducted, including services in internal medicine, gynecology, pediatrics, ophthalmology, psychiatry, dentistry, kinesiology, nutrition, speech therapy, nursing, and diagnostic laboratory services. Additionally, screening and testing for sexually transmitted infections, such as HIV and syphilis, were carried out, along with follow-up and support.
In total, this space offers 13 different specialties. It also includes specialized facilities and offices for mental health, sexual health, a cannabis clinic, a walk-in clinic, support groups for victims of gender-based violence, and legal assistance, as well as pharmacy services, the preparation of first-aid kits for various university departments, and social work interventions.

The walk-in option, exclusively for UNR students without health insurance, allows for care without an appointment for recent symptoms that are concerning but not an emergency. Upon arrival at the Health Center, the nursing team performs an initial assessment, and the consultation is then handled by a doctor, with the possibility of scheduling an appointment if the situation requires it.
The "7 de Abril" Health Center also provides services open to the entire community, such as HIV, syphilis, and other sexually transmitted infection screening, testing, and treatment, with free, safe, and confidential rapid tests. Additionally, through an agreement with the Ministry of Health of the Province of Santa Fe, a community vaccination center operates, administering all vaccines included in the Expanded Program on Immunization, in accordance with official guidelines.
A benchmark in university care
The UNR Health Center is named “April 7th” in homage to the date of creation of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The facility has been operating since 2005, providing primary health care to all University students who do not have any other type of social or medical coverage.
To access free care services, students must present proof of regular student status, a photocopy of their vaccination card, a negative certification from ANSES, and a photocopy of their ID or passport.
This space not only plays a key role in medical assistance, but also serves as a reference point for health promotion, offering information, prevention, and support throughout the university journey.
With these initiatives, UNR continues to advance in building a university health model based on equity, access and commitment to the well-being of its community.

Expansion into the territory
The National University of Rosario (UNR) has an annex of its Health Center in the city of Casilda, which facilitates access to medical care for students in that area. With the aim of further expanding its service capacity, the University is finalizing the construction of a new facility on the University Campus, which will allow for an increase in the number of consultations and provide better service to the growing student community.
Decentralizing care and creating new spaces are key strategies for strengthening access to healthcare within the academic community, ensuring that more students can receive medical care without economic or geographic barriers.
Promotion and prevention
The work of the Public Health Area is complemented by a strong promotion and prevention policy. Throughout 2025, 61 activities were carried out, including campaigns, training sessions, and volunteer health initiatives. Within this framework, 3.115 doses of vaccines (influenza, hepatitis B, adult tetanus-diphtheria, and hemorrhagic fever) were administered, 510 HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis C tests were performed, and 100 blood donations were collected at various community blood drives.
In addition, the first cohort of the Health Volunteer Program was launched, with 1.200 students enrolled. These students participated in training sessions and community-based activities in the city of Rosario and surrounding areas. This initiative reinforces the UNR's commitment to participatory, community-based public health.
