:: RATIONALE:

Sexuality is inherent to human beings. The quality of being sexual, as well as the capacity to experience sexual feelings, accompanies people at all stages of their lives and is intertwined with all spheres of human activity. In this sense, sexuality and its diverse manifestations challenge the professional practice of multiple disciplinary fields within the Human Sciences.

From a psycho-bio-social perspective, the study of human sexuality is inevitably interdisciplinary.

Sexology is a young science that grew up on the margins of the academic world. In Higher Education for the training of professionals, Universidad Nacional de Rosario (UNR) is one of the pioneers in including the subject in its curriculum.

In the undergraduate program, the UNR Psychology program offers an optional undergraduate seminar on "Sexual Education and Sexology." In the UNR Medicine program, there is a section on Sexuality, Gender, and Reproduction within the Health Promotion Program. Since 2017, according to Board of Directors Resolutions No. 2236/2017 and 2465/2018, a Clinical Sexology elective has been offered. It began as a quarterly elective in the Disease Prevention Program and is currently offered annually in the Diagnosis, Treatment, and Recovery Program, according to Board of Directors Resolution No. 3329/2019.

In Postgraduate training, the Interdisciplinary Studies Center (CEI) of the UNR, houses the first academic Postgraduate course in the area certified by a University, which is the Diploma of Advanced Studies in Sexology and Neurosciences , by Resolution of the Superior Council No. 405/2020 and which in 2025 goes through its fourth cohort.

For these reasons, and because of the fundamentally interdisciplinary nature of Sexology, the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies It is the optimal academic space for postgraduate training in this field, with the Postgraduate Degree in Specialization in Sexology for professionals graduated in Psychology and Medicine. In collaboration with the Argentine Sexological Federation FESEA.

PRE-REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

:: GRADUATE PROFILE:

Graduates of the program will be professionals in psychology or medicine, qualified by their degree to practice their profession in the areas relevant to their discipline. They will be uniquely qualified to understand and address issues associated with sexuality from a psychosocial and biosocial perspective, with an aptitude for interdisciplinary work.

:: CURRICULUM:

It maintains a transversal methodology and an interdisciplinary approach, organized into four (4) Modules , which are distributed over the two years of study, composed of subjects, seminars, lectures and workshops whose contents contemplate the diverse perspectives and theoretical frameworks of the intervening disciplinary fields.

The course culminates with the presentation of a Final Integrative Project (TIF).

The modules consist of curricular spaces named according to their functionality, integrated by Subjects, which are detailed below:

1_ Module of theoretical developments

  • Knowledge of Sexology in interdisciplinary dialogue
  • Erotic function, links and contexts
  • Sexology and health-disease processes

2_ Theoretical-practical articulation module

  • Integration workshops: Sexology and professional practices
  • Institutional Practices for Observing Patient Care
  • Case Presentation Forum

3_ Module of optional academic pathways

  • Elective Seminar I
  • Elective Seminar II

4_ Module for the preparation of the Final Integrative Work

  • Workshop for the preparation of the Final Integration Project
  • Spaces for monitoring the Final Integration Work

The training initially offers a development of theoretical content with the respective disciplinary foundations of Psychology and to consolidate the theoretical bases on which the specific topics of Sexology are developed.

Secondly, the proposal involves integrating the developed theoretical categories with the professional practices carried out according to the responsibilities of their core profession, within an integrative framework based on the connection between theory and practice. This will be managed across the entire degree program.

Within this module, participants will also complete Institutional Observation Practicums of patient care in public or private settings, led by professionals with expertise in Sexology. Those who are able to complete their observation practicums in their place of residence may choose this option and will be informed in due course of the requirements and necessary documentation. The Academic Committee will evaluate the suitability of the proposal and will arrange the necessary institutional collaboration agreements to carry them out as appropriate.

In cases where it is not possible to have institutions or consultation spaces to carry them out, the Career will offer the practices in synchronous and non-face-to-face modalities.

The third module, Optional Academic Pathways, is designed to consider different options for deepening or updating content led by experts.

Finally, a module will be offered to foster and support academic writing, which will be developed across the entire course. Successful completion of all four modules of the program is required to submit the Final Integrative Project.

The program culminates with the submission of the Final Integrative Project (TIF), a written and individual work that will be evaluated by the Academic Committee. There is no formal defense of the project.
