New technological equipment was delivered to the University Hall so that people deprived of their liberty can continue with their studies.
Last Tuesday, June 27, the Human Rights Area of the Universidad Nacional de Rosario (UNR) through the Socio-Educational Directorate in Confinement Contexts, carried out the delivery of a new computer, to reinforce the technological equipment of the university rooms in the city's Penal Units.
This delivery will allow, on the one hand, to generate the optimal material conditions so that people deprived of their liberty can continue with their studies and, on the other hand, to carry out training in digital literacy for the consolidation of virtual classrooms in university spaces in prison.
These new tools were acquired through the Announcement of Capacity Building Grants for University-Prison partnerships and/or programs outside of the United States, where the Socio-educational Directorate in Contexts of Confinement team presented a project that won funding from the Bard Prison Initiative – Bard College – Consortium for the Liberal Arts in Prison – Open Society University Network and Incarceration Nations Network (BPI).
During the first delivery, held in Penal Unit No. 5, were present the university students who are currently studying Law, Social Work and Nursing in the University Halls of the UNR, Paula Contino, Secretary of the Human Rights Area, members from the Socio-educational Directorate in Confinement Contexts, Cristian Francario, Director of Penitentiary Complex No. 5, the Director of Sub 2, Paola Escalante, Sol Acorroni, Erika Neuffen and Paula Arce from EARS and in virtual mode, Ramiro Gual (UBA) , BIS representative for Latin America.
In the words of students from Penal Unit No. 5:
“…it is a joy that (this space) has developed in this way, that it has grown. The Pandemic for us was a springboard, because it allowed us to be one more of the university, we were a zoom window, like any other boy, so that was very important for us, that we were able to take an active part and not only surrender freely, but also be able to participate, integrate into the university... that's where we get dense, that we need this, we need the other, but hey, it's also that we have all the desire to move forward and do something with this weather... "
"...this has a motor and a reason, which is its own, ours and you can open those doors so that we can have access, for example, with the incorporation of another tool to work, which also motivates us to continue...".
In the coming days, more computers will be delivered to Penal Units No. 3, No. 11 and No. 16, where the Socio-Educational Directorate in Contexts of Confinement of the Human Rights Area works daily to comprehensively and articulately address the three constitutive dimensions of the Public University : Extension, Research and Training.
