In an extraordinary session and with a massive public attendance, the Faculty of Humanities and Arts advanced in the initiative that promotes the distinction for the former Brazilian president. Now the Superior Council of the UNR must vote on it.

The Faculty of Humanities and Arts of our University, meeting in the Board of Directors, approved in extraordinary session the declaration of Doctor Honoris Causa to former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva. In this way, the initiative will be dealt with by the Superior Council of the UNR, which must resolve at the next meeting if it approves this distinction.

In the act, which had this as the only item to be discussed, in addition to the representatives of the different cloisters of this house of studies, political authorities, union leaders and a significant number of students and the general public were present.

José Goity, dean of the Faculty, led the Council meeting, which was opportune for the debate and the exchange of arguments around this institutional declaration, which occurs within the framework of the recent episodes involving the figure of Lula Da Silva in Brazil. For the dean, the Public University cannot be outside of this context.
