The UNR presented a new training path that seeks to generate a critical reflection on the subject. The certification grants points to all teachers in the Province of Santa Fe.
La Universidad Nacional de Rosario presented his Undergraduate Diploma in Disability and Human Rights.
This new training path is promoted by the Human Rights Area of the UNR and is located in the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations. The objective is to generate learning and critical reflection on the issue of disability from a human rights perspective.
“For us it is very important in the framework of everything we have been working on in the Human Rights Area. The Diploma was not a validated path until 2019 and the implementation of this has allowed us to add many training proposals. We understood that there were many issues on the agenda that were not included in the UNR offer and this issue is clearly one of these", argued the rector Franco Bartolacci and added: "We believe that the issues must be addressed comprehensively, guaranteeing a more inclusive University and diverse so that many and many more can travel through this space. We are in a process of questioning our own practices, modifying our institutional culture, and being able to open new paths of training”.
Disability is a complex social issue that needs to be addressed from multiple perspectives. Institutionally, work is done taking as a reference the "Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities", which was conceived as an instrument to guarantee their rights.
“This is the first diploma course in disability from a Human Rights perspective with an approach from communication, and in this sense we want to celebrate because it has been an enormous job by the entire team since this is not the result of something we imagine alone but rather It is a construction with a historical perspective in which many colleagues have participated”, commented Paula Contino, head of the Human Rights Area of the University.
For her part, Miriam Bidyeran, Director of Inclusion and Accessibility, stressed that this training journey arises from having been able to coordinate various courses and talks on the subject throughout the past year, and that it seeks "not only to focus on the subject but also in context.
The Diploma will be delivered in the "Distance Education" modality, through the Moodle Educational Platform in the Careers and Courses space of the Comprehensive Distance Education System (SIED) of the UNR. This enables the training of students in a synchronous and asynchronous way, overcoming the physical and space-time limits in an accessible way for the participants.
“It is a great responsibility because we do it from a university environment, a place where the people who will make decisions tomorrow are trained. It is a tool to continue causing transformations in today's society. The proposal is open to any and all interested parties, we seek to provide space for a collective construction”, explained Guillermo dos Santos, coordinator of the Diploma.
In this way, flexible and collaborative learning is promoted as a way of building socially significant knowledge based on interaction, valuing the figure of a student involved in the development of their activities.
The curricular design of the Diploma is structured around five modules, in each of which various theoretical-practical activities related to the main thematic guidelines will be addressed. Each one will have an evaluation instance referring to an activity and slogans that must contribute incrementally to the completion of the Final Integrative Work.
“We are going to have a tutor for every 30 participants to be able to carry out the dynamics of this process. Each module is made up of four classes, and they will be supported with a reading guide and audiovisual materials to complement them. The certification grants points to all teachers in the Province of Santa Fe. The first module will deal with the main principles on disability, the second will address Human Rights and Disability, the third will focus on the realities of people with disabilities, the fourth on inclusive education, and the last one on accessibility”, reported dos Santos.
Finally, one of the teachers of the brand new Diploma, Marcelo Rocha, developed a dissertation on disability and subjective problems, focusing on coexistence as the basis for inclusion. “The content of this Diploma is excellent, colleagues with a long history in the field participate who contribute a lot to the construction of a joint perspective. In addition, the conformation of the contents is enviable, they connect many instances of what disability is, giving a broad vision of this complex field. We need well-trained professionals to enter the institutions to change the reality that happens to us”.
