On the occasion of Rosario Pride Week, the UNR Pride Cup was held for the first time at the CUR “La Siberia” Sports Complex. With more than 100 LGBTIQNB+ amateur and professional athletes from the city and the region.

On September 28, 2024, soccer and volleyball tournaments were held at the CUR Sports Complex. In addition, open classes in basketball, hockey, rugby, and twerk dancing were held. During the Pride Cup, the exhibition “Because we were together” by the Santa Fe Transvestite-Trans Memory Archive was inaugurated. The event was hosted by Laly Krupp and Michelle Vargas Lobo.

Rector Franco Bartolacci shared at the award ceremony that “the commitment is twofold, that we can celebrate pride and diversity in an activity like this,” emphasizing the context of crisis that national universities are going through and invited people to demonstrate next Wednesday, October 2, in defense of public education. Bartolacci highlighted the strategic role that the university has for the development and future of the country and added that “education is the only thing that saves us and makes us truly free, this loving commitment for those who can be what they feel they are in a world that recognizes itself as truly free.”

The UNR Pride Cup is a proposal that emerged from a working group with diverse sports organizations in Rosario to create a space for Pride-themed sports and recreational activities at the university, open to the entire community, in the lead-up to the “XVIII Rosario Pride March.” This sporting event is reminiscent of the First Latin American Gay Games, held in the city of Rosario in July 1999. The passion for sports without distinction of gender or identity, respect, and equal rights are the hallmarks that defined the organization of those Games, and after 25 years, they have been revived in the UNR Pride Cup.

The event was organized by the Educational and Labor Inclusion Program of the Gender and Sexualities Area together with the Gender Secretary of the Faculty of Political Science, the Faculty of Architecture and the Human Rights Secretary of the Faculty of Psychology and the Transaberes UNR University Programs, Transformar la UNR. Also, the development of the UNR Pride Cup was accompanied by the LGBTIQNB+ sports organizations of the city of Rosario: Quimeras Deporte Diverso, Yaguaretes Rosario, Furias Deporte Inclusivo, Pirañas Rosario Natación, Bucaré Rugby Club and La Tribu Club Social.

Several authorities were present at the UNR Pride Cup: Gustavo Simonetta, Secretary of the University Well-being Area; Cintia Pinillos, Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations, together with Mariangeles Camusso, Gender Secretary of the FCPOLIT. Pedro Ferrazini, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, together with Verónica López Tessore, in charge of the Gender and Sexuality Program and the representatives of the spaces for attention to violence.
