This UNR program seeks to contribute to admission and permanence in university studies.
La Universidad Nacional de Rosario presented the “UNR 2025 Access Scholarships” Program for the city’s middle schools. The novelty is the incorporation of new state-run schools included in this proposal, going from the 14 that are currently part of it to more than 50 for next year.
This program, managed by the University Welfare Area, adds for this edition the joint work with the 6 Districts of Rosario so that more students access, remain and graduate from the University.
“Access to higher education is a right and the University continues to work to guarantee the admission, permanence and graduation of our students at all levels,” explained Rector Franco Bartolacci, adding: “We will continue to consolidate everything we have been doing. Today we have a type of scholarship for each situation that arises, a wide network of university cafeterias, and a health center that serves all those students who do not have social coverage. We also have two university residences, and we will soon finish building the third. We add all the tools that the UNR has to support students, especially those who need it most.”
The first meeting with the schools from the Centro District was held at the Galpón de Juventudes, and in the coming weeks we will continue to meet with the rest of the various districts of the city. “I want to thank the municipality for its support, as well as appreciate the great turnout today, with many schools that came to learn about this program. Argentina has something that is not repeated in other countries in the world and that is that anyone can enter a university course without restrictions. University is social mobility, and that is a great value of our society,” the Rector emphasized.
This tool, which was first implemented by UNR in 2019, is a comprehensive scholarship aimed at strengthening access to the University for students who live in different neighborhoods of our city, who are the first generation of university students in their family.
“We created the Public University Access Scholarship to seek out those who traditionally did not go to university. There are more than 400 scholarships awarded since its launch and it is one of the mechanisms that makes us most proud,” explained Bartolacci, who recalled that the UNR is the national university that allocates the most resources to university welfare policies in the country, approximately 25 percent of its budget.
This device consists of academic support from the last year of secondary school, with vocational guidance workshops and free access to the services of the University Cafeteria network from the courses, a work that is carried out in coordination between the Directorates of the University Welfare area.
“With the Access Scholarship we want to emphasize that each University policy is linked to a line of thought, so that young people who are finishing high school know that studying a university degree is possible and that UNR will be there to support them in fulfilling their dreams. We are here to help them and accompany them on this path,” said the Head of the University Welfare Area, Gustavo Simoneta.
For her part, Carolina Labayru, Secretary of Proximity and Citizen Management of the Municipality of Rosario, highlighted that “we have been working for some time in various instances of collaboration with the UNR, but on this occasion the effort takes on special relevance, since this tool not only strengthens cooperation between our institutions, but also has a direct impact on young students from secondary schools in different neighborhoods of the city. This allows us to bring educational opportunities and resources to sectors that often do not have easy access.”
