La Universidad Nacional del Litoral hosted a key meeting to outline the future of the network.
During the days 12 and 13 of August, the Universidad Nacional del Litoral (UNL) welcomed 40 Delegates and Advisory Delegates representing the 51 public universities that are members of the Association of Montevideo Group Universities (AUGM). The meeting sought to define a work agenda for the 2026-2027 biennium and strengthen the Association in defense of public education. In a regional and global context that demands a united voice, the meeting seeks to preserve the achievements made and advance toward the universalization of higher education as a fundamental human right.

The opening took place at the UNL Superior Council, headed by Rector Enrique Mammarella and Vice Rector Larisa Carrera. The Executive Secretary, Álvaro Rico, and other coordinators were present for the AUGM. Clarito Rojas, President of the Association and Rector of the National University of Concepción (Paraguay), participated virtually. Representing the Universidad Nacional de Rosario, its Advisory Delegate, María Cecilia Candusso, participated.

During the two days, the Advisory Delegates reviewed the last session of the Council of Rectors in Montevideo, Uruguay, and evaluated recent regional and international agreements. In this regard, actions were defined to strengthen ties between universities, governments, and international organizations.
In a process of expanding its borders, the recent incorporation of the National University of Colombia (UNAL) as a full member stands out, strengthening AUGM as a leading university network in the continent.
