Specialization in “Environmental Sciences and Sustainable Development”

Registration for the Specialization in Environmental Sciences and Sustainable Development, with a virtual course format, is open until August 15, 2026.

Academic unit of origin: Faculty of Biochemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Total Hourly Load: 360 hours long.
Duration: 1.5 years in the Making

Start of course: August 31th, 2026

Online format. The course will be taught through the UNR Virtual Campus Moodle platform with synchronous meetings twice a week (from 7:00 to 8:30 pm).

Intended for: Graduates of any degree program who want to incorporate the environmental perspective into their academic and professional activities.

The increasing complexity of contemporary environmental challenges, manifested in phenomena such as climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and ecosystem degradation, necessitates a rethinking of development models and a strengthening of professional capacities aimed at promoting environmental and social sustainability. In this context, it is essential to train specialists capable of understanding the complexity of socio-environmental problems and contributing to the design and implementation of strategies that reconcile the well-being of societies with nature conservation and the sustainable use of natural commons.

The program reflects the institution's commitment to training professionals with a solid foundation to understand, analyze, and address contemporary environmental challenges, contributing to the generation of knowledge, tools, and solutions geared toward sustainable development. It also aims to equip students with the skills to operate effectively within an increasingly dynamic and interdependent legal, institutional, social, economic, and environmental context, fostering a professional practice committed to social and environmental responsibility at the local, regional, and global levels.

Among its main objectives is the training of specialists with a clear understanding of the importance of the sustainable management of natural commons and the ecological, social, economic, and cultural processes linked to their use. Likewise, the program seeks to strengthen the connection between environmental policies and the principles of sustainable development, fostering analytical, critical, and creative skills in its students that will enable them to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams, evaluate complex problems, design intervention strategies, and contribute to building more just, resilient, and sustainable societies.
