Foundation
The teaching of statistics in the distance modality is based on the benefits that information and communication technologies (ICT) can offer. ICT constitutes a useful didactic support to face the difficulties that arise in the understanding of certain concepts.
Statistics, clearly, is the common denominator in research that involves data analysis to test a research hypothesis. The increase in the use of statistics in research has been evident in recent decades, and it has become a fundamental tool in predictions and decision making based on the observation of a set of data. Although this emergence is directly linked to the growth of computing, it is clear that, to a large extent, it is also due to the need for researchers to acquire new data analysis procedures that respond to their objectives, independently. of the disciplinary area in which they operate. However, computer growth has contributed to this fact due to the appearance of certain statistical application software that is easy to access and has a friendly format for the researcher who wishes to carry out their own analyses. However, in order to conduct said analysis, it is an essential requirement that the researcher have certain basic knowledge about statistics, so as not to reach wrong conclusions.
Most professionals from different disciplines require statistical methods, such as statistical modeling and inference, both to carry out data analysis and for their subsequent interpretation. The importance of this area of statistics in the development of research in different fields is increasing.
