Diploma ceremony Diploma in Literacy Practices in Non-Formal Literacy Programs

On May 8th of this year, the School of Tourism at the University of Rosario held a diploma ceremony for those who completed and passed the 2023 Undergraduate Diploma in Literacy Practices in Non-Formal Literacy Programs, offered by the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies (CEI/UNR) . During the ceremony, the magazine "Rosario por conocer" (Rosario to Discover) and the poetry newspaper produced by participants in the reading and writing workshops of the NGOs Madre Teresa de Lourdes, which serves homeless youth and adults, and Casa de Todos, which serves youth and adults from the San Francisquito neighborhood of Rosario, were presented and delivered to the Tourism/UNR Bachelor's Degree program. These workshops were organized by the coordinators and students of the Diploma program. This academic training initiative stems from the conviction that many more people need meaningful access to written language, particularly those who, for one reason or another, have not continued their education through the various stages offered by the formal education system. We understand that literacy transcends knowledge of the writing system itself; it is about interpreting and producing written language not only for study but also, and above all, to be heard as a citizen, to express emotions that cannot always be voiced, to explore other worlds of possible and impossible meanings, to be, feel, and exist in an increasingly literate world. Therefore, we encourage writing experiences that go beyond the limitations of reading and writing workshops designed to continue unfinished literacy processes, such as the magazine and newspaper, whose target audience has always been Tourism students. To this end, copies were given to the Director of the Tourism program, Julia Flamini , for use by the students in that degree program. In addition, "authorship" certificates were awarded to all the authors of these productions who assist the aforementioned NGOs. Also present at this meeting were Professor Darío Maiorana , director of the CEI; the NGO coordinators Mariana Menna and Daniela Famea from Madre Teresa de Lourdes, and Santiago Jozami from Casa de Todos; the Diploma program coordinators Mónica Baez and Marcos Alionis ; Tourism students; and workshop participants.
